Chlorine disinfection is viewed by many businesses in our country as a simple process, and it is commonly believed that adding chlorine to water eliminates all microbes. However, proper application is essential for successful chlorine disinfection.

The Ministry of Health has warned municipalities regarding tap water. In a circular signed by Health Minister Recep Akdağ, municipalities were urged to take necessary precautions against potential waterborne diseases linked to rising air temperatures. The circular, which also calls for increased inspections of bottled water, outlines the following:

CONTINUOUSLY CHLORINATE THE TANK
Especially during the summer months, the need for water increases due to rising air temperatures. Insufficient water resources, uncontrolled water usage to meet this need, and the failure to chlorinate or the inadequate chlorination of drinking and domestic water can lead to waterborne diseases.
Therefore, regular water sampling and monitoring of reservoirs and sources must be conducted at the provincial, district, town, and village levels, taking into account the volume of drinking and domestic water consumption. In water reservoirs, regular and continuous chlorination must be ensured using automatic chlorination devices adjustable according to water flow; water reservoirs must be constructed in areas lacking them, and continuity in chlorination processes must be maintained. Additionally, chlorination devices must be provided immediately to reservoirs in need of them.
Necessary measures must be taken to protect water sources, intake structures, reservoirs, and distribution lines from all types of contamination. The use of water from unknown sources or water whose adequate chlorination cannot be confirmed must be prevented; in cases where its use for drinking or domestic purposes is unavoidable, such water must be consumed only after boiling or chlorination.
